From the wreck of "El Cazador" sunk in 1784 off New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship was carrying a cargo of Spanish milled dollars destined to pay the Spanish garrison of Louisiana. The disastrous wreck weakened the position of Spain in North America, contributing to the circumstances of the Louisiana purchase
