Portugal. ND (1834). AR 870 reis (39 mm, 26.88 g). Crowned arms of Portugal countermarked on an 1796 Mexican 8 reales of Carlos IV, KM 109. KM 440.13. A very presentable example for the type. Coin and countermark very fine.

In 1834, the Portuguese government ordered that all Spanish Colonial 8 Reales in circulation be counterstamped with the crowned arms of Portugal, to indicate a revaluation to 870 Reis.
