Gordian III. A.D. 238-244. AR antoninianus (23 mm, 4.55 g, 12 h). Rome, A.D. 240. IMP CAES GORDIANVS PIVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III right / VIR-TV-S AVG, Virtus standing facing, head left, holding branch and inverted spear; at his feet, grounded shield. RIC 56; Cohen 386. Well centered and struck. Choice very fine.

The St. Jean d'Ardieres Hoard consisted of 4,100 antoniniani and three denarii struck from 215 until 252. It was studied by Vincent Drost and his results published in Trésors Monétaires.
