Attica, Athens. Ca. 454-404 B.C. Fourrée tetradrachm (25 mm, 11.95 g, 10 h). Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye / ΑΘΕ, owl standing right, head facing; above and behind, olive sprig and crescent; all within incuse square. Cf. Kroll 8; cf. Svoronos pl. 14; cf. SNG Copenhagen 31-40. Small test cut on edge, small punh mark on owl's wing, no significant traces of core exposed. Minor porosity. Choice very fine.

This coin is stylistically dissimilar to the known emergency tetradrachms of ca. 406/5 B.C. illustrated in J. Kroll, "The Piraeus 1902 hoard of plated drachms and tetradrachms (IGCH 46)," Essays Oeconomides, 1-2, and therefore is probably just a contemporary counterfeit.
