Vidisangu. 4th century A.D. Æ unit (15 mm, 2.21 g). Shiva seated on Nandi bull left with one arm raised / Trident to left with Brahmi legend in two lines Vidi/sagu. Not listed in the standard catalogues. Extremely rare. Dark greenish-brown patina, surfaces a little uneven. Good fine.

An extremely rare coin of a local ruler in the Punjab after the collapse of the Kushan Empire. Vidisangu (or Vidishagupta?) appears to be a devotee of Shiva as the deity is shown with Nandi and a trident is on reverse. Â

The ruler's name Vidisangu is clearly visible on our specimen.
