13th century. AR tara (9 mm, 0.27 g). Stylized lion (sardula) standing right; lingam with crescent above / Nagari letter Ha, along with Kannada numerals 2+1/2 for the denomination. MNI -; MSI 415 (Vijayanagar); Ganesh 8.39. Rare. Toned. Very fine. 

The Hoysala Empire was a prominent empire that ruled most of modern-day Karnataka between the 10th and 14th centuries. Ganesh assigns this coin to the Hoysalas, while Mitchiner attributes it to Vijayanagar's Hari Hara II.
