Bruttium, Rhegion (Regium) (c. 494-480 BC), AR Didrachm, 6.90g, lion on shield, surrounded by ring of dots, rev. forepart of ox left, re-ci-o-n in surrounding field (cf. Kraay {1976}, pp. 214, pl. 780; SNG ANS 621), very fine.

The academic noted of this issue: "These coins struck after Anaxilas [the Tyrant] had evicted the Samian exiles [from Rhegion], but before his win with a mule cart at Olympia in 484 or 480BC. A subsequent type (SNG ANS 625-31) records this Olympic victory.
