The academic noted of this issue: "These coins struck after Anaxilas [the Tyrant] had evicted the Samian exiles [from Rhegion], but before his win with a mule cart at Olympia in 484 or 480BC. A subsequent type (SNG ANS 625-31) records this Olympic victory.
