This coin and that of the next lot commemorate the Ludi Saeculares of AD 88, a religious festival timed to occur at the same intervals as the perceived limitation of human life in the Roman world, i.e. between 100 and 110 years. The last festival before this occurred in 17 BC and the next in the reign of Septimius Severus in AD 204.
