James I (1603-25), Laurel, third coinage, 8.95g, m.m. trefoil, fourth laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, small ties, rev. crowned shield over cross fourchée (cf. Schneider 88; N.2114; S.2638B), some roughness to rim and a scuff at 1 o'clock, otherwise a strong portrait on a broad flan, very fine.
