Charles II (1660-85), Five-Guineas, 1679 tricesimo primo, second laureate head right, rev. crowned shields cruciform, ornamented sceptres in angles (MCE 20; S.3331), surface smoothing before bust and around date to hide flan flaws, otherwise the edge lettering bold, the fields with some residual brilliance, further highlighted by red tone in recesses, almost very fine.
