An extremely rare and beautiful Sancai-glazed, convex shaped pottery jar. "Chi-Chou"
The well-curved globular body is surmounted by a short neck with a lipped, everted rim. The jar is covered with a mixture of yellow, white and blue glaze, with brown running in rivulets from the mouth over the body. In certain areas there is a fine iridescence due to the mixture of tin and lead based glaze. The underside and part of the foot are unglazed, exposing the pottery beneath.

Diameter: 11.5cm

Style of: Tang (618 – 907), age determination uncertain

Blue shades are very rare on Tang ceramics. The iridescence is a mark of the objects antiquity.

M.Medley, The Chinese Potter, pg.139, fig.119. Comp. Item in the Sotheby's catalogue; 100 selected Chinese and Korean Ceramics from the Toguri collection, 2004, pg.105, fig.71
