A very important and beautiful Sancai-glazed pottery ewer
The ovoid body is rising from a spreading foot to a tall waisted neck and cup-shaped mouth. The rim and shoulder feature with a long dragon-headed strap handle. It is flanked by a pair of moulded ring handles at the shoulder; on the opposite we see the moulded head of a chicken. The ewer is covered in a brightly splashed cream with green and brown iridescence glazes flowing over rim and body. The underside and the foot-ring are unglazed, an really exceptional form.

Height: 30cm

Style of: Tang (618 – 907), age determination uncertain

The iridescence is a mark of the objects antiquity
