An exceptionally interesting and very fine bronze jar in the shape of a bird with a jade cover
Recumbent, its small head forward, with hook-shaped beak and small eyes, with large squat body, framed on either side with well cast curling feathers and a tail as a handle, clearly incised feathers on body, the cover made carved from jade in the shape of twisting mythical animal.
Length: 13.5cm, Height with cover: 8cm.
Style of: Apparently late Zhou (5th – 3rd century BC), age determination uncertain
