FRANCE. Large art nouveau VICTORY medal celebrating World War I. Bronze. 120.24 gm. 67 mm. Victory as an American GI holding an olive branch, a pin reading US on her shoulder, stars behind / A wide border of branches and flowers. Good Extremely Fine.

By Pierre-Alexander Morlon (1878-1951), a prominent French medallist who also designed a series of French coins that came to be known as the "Morlon type." From 1931 until 1959 his female image of the Republic wearing a Phrygian cap was part of France's circulating coinage.
