His radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; IMP C M AVR PROBVS P F AVG / Emperor standing right, receiving globe from Jupiter standing left, both holding scepters; CLEMENTIA TEMP around, KA in exergue. RIC V.2 927. Superb Extremely Fine ("Gem Unc"); fully silvered on excellent metal (rare thus). Exceptional realistic portrait. A beautiful example.
Brilliant militarily and a visionary in economic matters, Probus introduced viticulture into several western provinces and was on his way to restoring the Empire to its former glory when he was murdered by soldiers upset at being put to work on public works rather than military.
