ABBASID: Abu Ja'far Harun Al-Rashid (786-809), AR Dirham (2.95g), Sijistan, AH 171. Rare variety with vertically inscribed "'abd" (slave) in lower reverse field, continous with "lillah" in the upper reverse field, making up the phrase "'abd lillah" (slave to Allah), a description of Harun Al-Rashid, who is cited as "al-khalifa Harun" (the caliph Harun) in reverse, "'abd" (slave) is surrounded by double "bakh" (indicating good quality of dirham). A-219.4. Extremely fine. Rare.

Seldom appearing in auction, one of the recent examples, though unsold but in lower condition with an unattractive marking of collector's number on the obverse, was in Stephen Album's auction 21 (lot 215) with a starting bid of $170.

Estimate: 200-300
