Valens, 364-378. Heavy Miliarense (Silver, 25 mm, 5.17 g, 7 h), Constantinopolis, circa 371. D N VALENS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valens to right. Rev. VICTORIA D N AVG / (palm)CONSA(wreath) Victory standing facing, head to right, holding wreath in her right hand and staff surmounted by a shield inscribed VOT / X / MVLT / XX with her left; to lower left, bearded captive seated left, looking up; to lower right, captive seated left, wearing Phrygian cap; in field to left, Chi-Rho. RIC -, cf. 31 (for Valentinian I and with star in right reverse field). Unpublished and unique. A beautifully toned and very interesting piece of fine style. Somewhat rough with some minor scratches and a thin flan crack, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
