Byzantine Weights, Circa 7th-8th/9th century. Weight of 2 Ounkia (Orichalcum, 35 mm, 53.12 g), a discoid commercial weight with double-grooved edge. Γᴑ - Γ, engraved in outline and with cross potent above and ornament below; in the center, small centering hole on a raised boss; all within inner raised circle; around, cruciform ΘЄ-OY-XA-PIC ('Grace of God') within laurel wreath; all within large raised circle within prominent raised outer rim. Rev. Plain except for centering hole; all within large incuse circle within raised outer rim. Bendall -, cf. 111 (a weight of one pound, but of cruder style). MAH -, cf. 58 (3 Ounkia). Pera -, cf. 163 (4 Ounkia). With a lovely green patina. Light deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
