ARMENIA, Cilician Armenia. Royal. Gosdantin I, 1298-1299. Tram (Silver, 22 mm, 2.83 g, 1 h), Sis. +ԿՈՍՏԸՆԴԻՆ ԹԱԳԱԻՈՐ ՀԱՅՈՑ ('Gosdantin King of the Armenians' in Armenian) Gosdantin, bearded and crowned, on horseback to right, his head facing, holding the reins with his left hand and a sword in his right. Rev. +ԿԱՐՈՂՈԻԹԲՆ ԱՍՏՈԻԾՈՑ ('by the will of God' in Armenian) Gosdantin, bearded and crowned, standing facing in a long elaborate tunic, holding sword in his right hand and short Latin cross in his left; to lower right, two pellets. AC -. CCA -. Y. T. Nercessian: An unpublished tram of King Gosdantin I (1298-1299), in: ANJ XXIV (1998), no. 3, pp. 35-37. Of the highest rarity, perhaps only the second known example. Areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.
The reverse legend of this extremely rare issue differs from the standard coins of Gosdantin in that it reads 'by the will of God' only instead of the usual extended 'by the will of God he is king'.
