CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Aulerci Eburovices. Late 2nd to first half of 1st century BC. Half Stater (Gold, 15 mm, 3.69 g, 12 h), 'au loup' type. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right, the hair devolved into long curls with a strand falling loose before the forehead. Rev. Celticized horseman to right, holding long serrated whip in his right hand; below horse, wolf standing right with an ornament above. DT 2386. LT 7170. Scheers, Eburovices pl. I, 1/7. Very rare and in exceptional condition for this difficult issue. A well struck and unusually complete example of flamboyant Celtic style. Nearly extremely fine.
