Charles Steuart, C.B. (†22 May 1873), 14th Light Dragoons, served with his regiment in the Punjab campaign, 1848-9, receiving a sabre wound at the battle of Chilianwala (medal with two clasps, Chilianwala and Goojerat), then pursuing the Sikhs across the Jhelum and the Afghans over the Indus and through the Khyber Pass. He commanded a cavalry brigade in the Persian Expedition in 1857. Made a C.B. in January 1858, he later commanded a brigade in the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose, being present at the siege and capture of Rathgur, action of Barodia, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, forcing the Muddenpore Pass, siege and capture of Jhansi, and the battles of Betwa and Koonch. Retiring from his regiment in June 1861 he was appointed Major-General in October 1864. He was appointed Colonel of the 11th Hussars on 19 January 1873 but died four months later
