Thessaly, Peuma.
Ca. 302-286 BC. Æ chalkous (15mm, 2.41 g. Wreathed head of Achilles right / ΠEYMATIΩN around AX monogram; Phrygian helmet to right. BCD Thessaly II 565. Very fine. Contrary to most other small and obscure Thessalian mints where die duplicates are the rule rather than the exception, Peuma seems to have produced a multitude of reverse dies with the reading of the legend starting at a different point every time. The obverse dies are also quite numerous, the only relatively rare variety, except the one with the retrograde legend, being the type where the symbol of Phrygian helmet is missing.
