Epeiros, the Molossi.
Ca. 360-325 BC. Æs, 5.87 g. ΜΟΛΟΣΣΩΝ vertical thunderbolt on shield / vertical thunderbolt within wreath. Franke 52 var. (V-/R47). SNG Copenhagen 53. Good very fine. The Molossi were a Doric-speaking tribe occupying central Epeiros. Alexander I, who was a brother-in-law of Philip II of Macedon, was the first king to unite most of Epeiros under his rule.
