KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31.5 mm, 16.81 g, 12 h), Temnos, circa 200. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on a throne with a back, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; in field to left, oenochoe. Mektipini 257 (same obverse die). Price 1665. A very rare variety with an attractive old cabinet patina. Lightly struck, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
