BOEOTIA. Thebes. Circa 425-395 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 11.83 g). Boeotian shield; at the center, countermark of a pellet within a circular indent. Rev. Θ - Ε The infant Herakles seated facing, nude and with his head turned to right, strangling two serpents; in field to left, bow; in field to right, club. BCD Boiotia 455, Gulbenkian 503, and SNG Copenhagen 303 (all struck from the same reverse die). Rare. Well-struck, clear and lightly toned. One of the finest examples of this type known. Nearly extremely fine.
