ATTICA. Athens. Circa 449-404 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.25 g, 5 h), struck early in the 440s. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and palmette, round earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon; all within incuse square. Svoronos pl. 12, 10. A clear and most attractive example, with an owl with a slanted head, very similar to those of the Starr period. Some die wear on both sides, otherwise, virtually as struck.
