Galba, 68-69. As (Copper, 30 mm, 11.37 g, 7 h), Rome, July 68-Januar 69. SER SVLPI GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG P M TR P Bare head of Galba to right, set on globe. Rev. AEQV-ITAS / S C Aequitas standing to right, holding scales with her lowered right hand and long scepter with her left. ACG - (-/ P xiii, same reverse die). RIC²- cf. 492 (obverse inscription and portrait type variations). Extremely rare, with an apparently unpublished obverse die. This is a splendid coin, with untouched surfaces as found, a superb, matte, dark green patina, an outstanding portrait of Galba and a fine and sober figure of Aequitas. Extremely fine.

Ex Gorny & Mosch 211, 4 March 2013, 579.

Giard, in BN III, has suggested that this coin, with its remarkably powerful, bare-headed military portrait of Galba, with the globe at the point of the bust, might possibly be attributable to the mint of Lugdunum. The way Aequitas firmly stands on the reverse makes it more than likely that it is based on a then existing statue familiar to the die cutter.
