Caracalla, 198-217. Pentassarion (Bronze, 31.5 mm, 18.98 g, 6 h), Koinon of Cyprus, Paphos. Μ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC ΑVΓΟVCΤΟC Laureate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. ΚΟΙΝΟΝ ΚΥΠΡΙΩΝ The temple complex of the sanctuary of the Paphian Aphrodite, with the conical xoanon within a central tower flanked by two flat-roofed shrines, each containing an incense burner and with a dove on the roof; before, semi-circular forecourt; above star within crescent. BMC 60. Parks 25. SNG Copenhagen 92. Clear and nicely centered, with a dark, blackish-green patina and red earthen deposits. Very fine.
