Quito, Ecuador, 1/4 real, 1842MV, S below fortress, very rare, NGC VF details / environmental damage. KM-26. Bold rims and details, with light surface corrosion that has rendered the copper content visible (as it was struck in billon of just 33%-fine silver), which from a distance could be mistaken for colorful toning, nevertheless one of just six or seven known from an issue that was not authorized till September of that year (hence not a full year's production).
