Lesbos, Mytilene Fourrée Hekte. Circa 521-478 BC. Head of roaring lion right / Incuse head of crowing cockerel left, collar of five pearls. Naumann 55, lot 207 (same dies); cf. Bodenstedt 7 (for prototype); cf. SNG Copenhagen 302 (same); cf. HGC 6, 931 (same). 1.76g, 10mm, 9h.
Near Very Fine. Several holes in plating.
Most interestingly, whereas on the genuine dies of this type the cockerel is depicted with its beak firmly closed, on this fourrée example it is shown crowing loudly.
