Barbarous Imitation of Theodora (wife of Constantius I) Æ Nummus. Imitating Rome, after AD 337. Garbled legend, draped bust right / ...ROMA, Pietas standing facing, holding child in her arms. Cf. RIC 28 & 54. 0.88g, 10mm, 9h.
Near Extremely Fine.
Bearing a portrait that looks unnervingly to be Magnentius, the reverse of this nummus can only have been copied from those of Theodora (wife of Constantius I) featuring Pietas cradling a child in her arms, the garbled legends of the piece further strengthening this attribution.
