Severus Alexander. Denarius; Severus Alexander; 222-235 AD, Rome, 232 AD, Denarius, 2.45g. BM-819, C-596 (30 Fr.), RIC-261. Obv: IMP ALEXAN - DER PIVS AVG Bust laureate, draped, cuirassed r., seen from front. Rx: VOTIS / VICEN / NALI / BVS in four lines within laurel wreath. From the Philip Ashton Collection, acquired in Bonn, Germany, September 2009. A rare type: only one specimen in Reka Devnia hoard, none in Eauze hoard. Because die-linked to LIBERALITAS AVG V, this reverse type was apparently struck in 232, not 231 as stated in BMC: see note to Gemini II, 2006, 501.. MS
