CSA, T-2, $500, June 21, 1861, Cr-2, PF-1. Montgomery. No. 310, A. Black on green. Ceres, left. "The Crossing," a train crossing a bridge, cattle grazing, center. Printed by the National Bank Note Company in New York, just before hostilities broke out. The notes were successfully shipped to the Confederate Secretary of the Treasury in Montgomery, Alabama, but it wasn't long before Federal authorities arrived at the National Bank Note Company and confiscated the plates. The Confederacy then had to look elsewhere to obtain paper money with which to finance the war. PMG Very Fine 20 NET Repaired, Pieces Added, Stained. At first glance this example appears to be Very Fine, with areas of age toning present. Upon closer inspection, several portions of the note have been repaired or replaced (a portion of the left end, a small piece out of the top, and the lower right corner). Some edge splits have also been repaired. Regardless, any Montgomery $500 is rarely encountered, and the historical importance of this note compensates for its imperfections. Be prepared to bid accordingly..

Estimate: $7500-12500
