George III (1760-1820), Shilling, 1763, 'Northumberland' type, first young, laureate and draped bust right, rev. crowned shields cruciform (ESC 2124 {1214}; S.3742), light flecking across lightly toned and lustrous surfaces, the reverse particularly attractive, good extremely fine.
Struck in commemoration of the appointment of Hugh, Earl of Northumberland as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland.
