The Caesarians. Julius Caesar. February-March 44 BC. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 4.10 g, 4h). Rome mint; L. Aemilius Buca, moneyer. Wreathed head of Caesar right; [CAESAR •] DICT downward to right, PERPETVO upward to left / Fasces and winged caduceus in saltire; clasped hands to left, globe above, axe below; [L] • BVCA upward to right. Crawford 480/6; Alföldi Type XIII; CRI 103; Sydenham 1063; RSC 25; Type as RBW 1680. Good Fine, toned, two banker's marks on obverse, struck off center.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection.

Unusually complete reverse with fine style portrait. This coin came from an old English collection, for which I have not identified any provenances in the usual classic auction resources, but other coins from the same source had dateable provenances from 1930s to 1950s. [Andrew McCabe]
