ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Mercia. Offa. 757-796. AR Penny (16mm, 1.07 g, 9h). Light coinage, portrait type. London mint; Eadhun, moneyer. Struck circa 785-792/3. Draped bust right, with elaborate hairstyle / + Є A∂ HV UN in angles of cross-crosslet with central lozenge containing cross pattée with trefoils in quarters. Naismith, Coinage 15 = EMC 2008.0374 (this coin); Chick 31c = SCBI 67 (BM), 64 (same dies); North 303; SCBC 905. VF, porous, pitted.
