William Gordon Brereton was born on 25 March 1834 at Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. He came to Australia with his father who was a doctor. Gordon spent the greater part of his lifetime in New England and was well respected in Tamworth, Armidale and Glen Innes. He died at Minto and hundreds of telegrams and letters of sympathy were received. One of the letters of praise and tribute came from the Right Rev. Dr. O'Connor, Bishop of Armidale who wrote that a better man, or one more charitable, would be difficult to find.

Samuel Sullings was a resident of Hillgrove for 29 years during which time he operated the Commercial Hotel. He died on 1 March 1919.

Basil Sperling Morse was a 27 year old grazier when he enlisted in the AIF on 26 April 1916. He served with 33 Battalion and was commissioned a Lieutenant. He returned to Australia on 28 March 1919.

William H.B.Piddington was MLA for Uralla-Walcha, NSW and the eldest son of the late Archdeacon Piddington. He died on 27 September 1900 at age 44.
