CYCLING PRIZE MEDAL, 1925-1926, in rose gold and sterling silver (33x50mm), with suspension loop, obverse inscribed on shield, 'R.H' and on scroll behind this, '1925/1926', reverse inscribed, '1926' at top, and on the main body, 'R.Hultquist/1st Fastest/Time/21 Mile/Cycle Race'. Most detail worn, overall fine.

Ronald Norman Hultquist from Whakatane, New Zealand was a regular competitor in road cycling events in the second half of the 1920s. A carpenter by trade, he served in WWII embarking as a Lance Sergeant with HQs 7 Field Company NZ Engineers. During the campaign in Crete, Hultquist, now a Sergeant, commanded No 3 Section 7 Field Coy during the absence of the CO. In this campaign, Sergeant Hultquist was wounded in action and taken prisoner. He was repatriated to New Zealand on a hospital ship arriving at Wellington on 11 August 1945.
