Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; on ear, countermark: prow right with ΠY above within round incuse. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, ΠPI / ΘPA above trident head; in exergue, maeander pattern. Price -. An apparently unpublished issue from a rare mint. Minor flatness on the reverse from countermarking, otherwise, about very fine.
This countermark was applied somewhen in the mid 3rd century by the city of Byzantion.
