Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, Æ25 of Gadara, Decapolis. Dated year 223 (= 159/160 CE). OVHP KAICAP CEB YIOC, bare-headed and draped bust right / ΓAΔAPEѠN, Tyche of Gadara standing left, holding sceptre and cornucopiae, being crowned by Nike who stands atop Corinthian column to right; ΓKC (date) to right. Spijkerman 50; Rosenberger 53. 10.61g, 25mm, 12h.

Very Fine. Very Rare.

From a private North American collection.

Attributed to Lucius Verus by both Spijkerman and Rosenberger, this type is in fact a rare issue utilising Marcus Aurelius' given name of Marcus Annius Verus, as is confirmed by the date on the reverse, which was the year before Verus was raised to be co-emperor.
