South Africa Extremely RARE, Z.A.R. 1900 Ae Boer War Hollowed Bronze medallion, issued for the Prisoner of War Camps on St.Helena and the landing of the first 514 prisoners from the US Ship the SS Milwaukee on 11th April, including General Piet Cronje, his wife and military staff, eventually the number of prisoners rose to over 5000 and the camps were named Broadbottom and Deadwood. Ironically the medal is designed by J.L. LeFranc and as a French Lieutenant he was also held prisoner on the island.

The medal depicts South Africa, the arms of ZAR, Paul Kruger, and hatching on the flags divided by Barbed wire, the reverse shows the camp as a high rocky landscape. 46mm diameter (Hern 298, Laidlaw 0209) pretty much as made and GVF, Extremely Rare and historically important medallion. With a A.H.Baldwins ticket at £700 from over 15 years ago.
