South Korea Bank of Korea 1000 Won ND (1950) Pick 8 Group of 41 Uniface Color Trials. An unusual group of 41 uniface color trials from an early unissued 1000 Won of the third issue ND (1950). The group includes 30 face color trials, and 11 back examples. Most impressively, each example is different in either color or design, and numbered in the top right corner. "B" denotes the back trials, and "F" denotes the front examples. The front examples all have the portrait of 이승만, Rhee Syngman on them. What is striking, is that this unissued example had Rhee dressed in professional attire, rather than the chosen issued design of Rhee in 한복, Hanbok. The Security Banknote Company were the printers of these proposed color trials. All the front examples have A/A 000000 serials, and Specimen can be seen on both the front and the back pieces. Watermarks are absent on all the examples. English denotation of the The Bank of Korea is visible on the back examples only. This is an incredible historical representation of South Korean banknote printing history. This group has come directly from the family of George Goldsworthy, founder of The Republic Banknote Company in 1905, which later merged with The Security Banknote Company. We have struggled to find many of these examples on the market today, and have not sold anything similar. We have further struggled to find anything offered as inclusive and concise as this lot. Similar pieces have sold on the auction circuit for about $3,000-$5,000 for a pair of back and front examples. The research of Gene Hessler has been invaluable to piecing together some of the historical content of this lovely lot. All PCGS graded 40; 40PPQ; 45PPQ (3); 53PPQ; 58PPQ (2); 64(2); 66PPQ (9); 67PPQ (18); 68PPQ (4). HID08701242017
