The Collection of British Coins Formed by the Late Ray Inder (Part III)

Henry VIII (1509-1547), First coinage, Henry VIII/Henry VII mule, Halfpenny, London, mm. portcullis on obv., lis on rev., fourchée cross-ends, 0.44g/12h (Withers 1B/–; N 1779/1735?; S 2334/2245?). Very fine and extremely rare; apparently unpublished and perhaps unique £200-£260

---

The fourchée cross-ends suggest that this reverse must belong to the last coinage of Henry VII, not to the second coinage of Henry VIII. Although lis is a known mintmark for the last coinage of Henry VII, it is only ever found on the obverse; no coins are known with mm. lis on the reverse
