Himera. Ca. 409-407 BC. AR tetradrachm (25mm, 17.34 gm, 6h). Obverse die signed by the artist MAI. The nymph Himera driving galloping quadriga right; above, Nike flying left, crowning her with wreath and holding plaque inscribed MAI; in exergue, ketos left / [HI-MEP-AION] (retrograde), Himera standing facing, head left, holding phiale over altar to left; behind her to right, satyr in fountain with a lion-headed spout bathing. Arnold-Biucchi 22 (Q8/H17). Gutmann & Schwabacher 20. SNG ANS -. SNG Lloyd 1022 (same dies). Struck from fresh dies. Fully lustrous. FDC. Purchased from NFA in 1988. Accompanied by documentation certifying authenticity and asserting that this specimen is the "finest" from a recent small group of Himera tetradrachms.
