NGC MS 5/5 / 3/5.Philippicus was the son of an Armenian nobleman and can claim credit for finally deposing and disposing of the resilient Justinian II. His reign, however, was a disaster on all fronts, though not necessarily of his own doing, and Philippicus was himself deposed and blinded in May of 713.
