Republic Real 1838-ST Condition Census, KM17, MS63 NGC, standard legends. From the only year of assayer ST, an individual who did not start nor finish the calendar year of 1838 as the main assayer. This is an absolutely spectacular coin with intricate details and flashy lustrous surfaces. Every minute design feature is razor sharp, and as struck, on both sides. Other than a tiny field "line" above the "R" (for Real) which may well be raised rather than incuse (and thus be transferred from the original die), this example would almost certainly have received the same MS number as its brother. In reality, the slightly more reflective surfaces of this assayer ST piece might be more seductive for some type collectors! Given the generally crude nature of this coinage, this piece is certainly among the finest known of the type and almost certainly the finest of the ST assayer by a wide margin. From The Glenn Gilman. Krause catalog price(s) for this item: $250 in VF, $450 in EF.

Estimate: 3000.00-4500.00 USD
