Menelik II bronze Pattern Birr (Talari) EE1884 (1891), similar to the issued type struck in EE1887 but without the portrait of Menelik II, who was still waging a war of unification in Ethiopia. Plain edge with Paris privy mark and "bronze," 34.66 grams. Possibly unique in bronze; we have seen the same pattern in silver, which was included in the Spink Turath Sale in London. Choice prooflike FDC with fiery red-orange mint luster.
