Richard II (1377-99) gold Noble ND, S-1655, N-1304 (rare), Aquitaine title, London mint, saltire over sail, AU55 NGC, crude style, slightly short of flan, king's name not entirely clear, legends generally readable, center of reverse softly impressed with the central "R" vague but overall the coin is well detailed, surfaces quite choice with pleasing old-gold toning. (Mis-labeled on grading insert as S-1656, which would be with French title.) Richard's nobles are among the more popular with medieval enthusiasts, and are as a class rarer than many other issues of this type under the several reigns that minted them. Fewer were made and fewer have survived the ages. From The Marston Collection of British Coins.
