William III gold Guinea 1695, S-3458, 1st Bust, XF45 NGC, the distinctive early portrait is sharp and pleasing for this grade level, reverse shield evenly sharp in details, tiny old abrasions under the well-set and lovely yellowish gold toning. Varies from most Guineas of the day because of the small French lis on the shield. A choice coin for the grade, struck in the same year in which the Bank of Scotland was founded. Another sign of the times was that, on the last day of the year, a hated Window Tax was imposed, causing the bricking-up of countless glass windows across the land, in order to avoid the tax. From The Marston Collection of British Coins.

Estimate: 2250.00-2750.00 USD
