George I Shilling 1723-SSC, S-3647, MS65 PCGS, Gem UNC and as fine as the other "65" in the PCGS holder, this one shimmering with mint luster, as does the other, this one light silvery gold with more blue iridescence. One thousand pieces of these were found in a safe in London circa 1830, at the time long-lost "loose change" -- and the source of nearly all of the finest of these seen in our time on the marketplace worldwide. And yet -- not many are nice enough to be graded MS65, nor so pretty as these two certified gems, each made from silver "donated" to the Royal Mint by the bankrupt South Seas Company following the first stock-scandal in British history. Charming, gorgeous, and historic -- what more could one wish for? From The Estate of John C. Hugon.
